- HISTORIC RESTORATIONS & TRACKERS

History Repeats Itself

HISTORIC ORGANS are nothing new to The Rappahannock Organ Company. We are committed to the preservation of these treasures from our past. Whether you're looking for total restoration or restoration of individual components, all work is carefully researched and hand finished down to the tiniest detail in our facilities in Village, Virginia. Verifications are made as to the Organbuilder, date of manufacture, original stop lists, and wind pressures. Our experience doesn't stop at older instruments or cases and facades; we are also skilled at restoring and servicing organs of all ages with tracker action and other mechanical components. Of course the ultimate soul of the organ is in its voicing and our team will faithfully recreate the sound your historic pipes were meant to produce.

Historic restorations include:

  • Full cleaning of the organ and all parts.
  • Restorative voicing.
  • Regulation of mechanical key and stop actions for ease and reliability of operation.
  • Case restoration including enhancing older finishes or authentically applying new finishes.

For historic restorations we adhere to the guidelines set forth by The Organ Historical Society.

HISTORIC SPACES deserve an instrument that lives up to their inherent traditions. We can accurately restore your historic organ as mentioned above, or for those wanting a new or transplanted organ in a historic space, we offer a variety of services that allow the right decision for you. We can match the historic architecture, stop lists and voicing to your space while allowing you the choice to use historically correct tracker action in your newer instrument or back it with a state of the art, low maintenance electronic action. Whatever the needs of your historic space, we've got the solution and the experience.

The organ pictured below is a rare George Stephens organ (c.1855) restored by The Rappahannock Organ Company in 2000. It resides in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Royal, Virginia. In fact we are entrusted with the restoration and maintenance of the organs in several of the mid-Atlantic's most historic churches. Our latest historic tracker restoration is the Berger organ at The Fork Episcopal Church in Doswell, VA where Patrick Henry attended services.
